Green Stormwater Infrastructure and Coastal Resilience in Benton Harbor
West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum and Southwest Michigan Planning Commission will host an event on Green Stormwater Infrastructure and the impacts of severe weather events for local business leaders, municipal partners and interested residents on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Michigan Works! Benton Harbor.
This event will provide an opportunity for networking and an overview on the benefits of Green Stormwater Infrastructure and advancing coastal resilience efforts in southwest Michigan. Attendees will better understand how implementing green stormwater infrastructure can address climate change and lessen impacts of increased rain events.
Speakers will also touch on a project that will address impacts and vulnerabilities from high water and severe weather events in Benton Harbor along the St. Joseph River. The Riverview area is a popular place for residents and visitors to fish and launch kayaks and boats. There are also several businesses that are vulnerable and there are significant opportunities for redevelopment if high water flooding issues are addressed.
Featured Speakers:
- Don Carpenter, Principal, Drummond Carpenter Engineering and Research
- Marcy Hamilton, Senior Planner / Deputy Executive Director, Southwest Michigan Planning Commission
This event is free with registration. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
