Carrie Veldman
Membership Manager
Carrie Veldman is the Membership Manager for West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum. In this role, she supports businesses, institutions and other stakeholders in western Michigan and across the state through educational programs, technical support and project facilitation. A self-described “Garbage Girl”, Veldman has been an enthusiastic advocate for sustainable business and the circular economy for more than a decade, impacting thousands of local professionals throughout the Midwest.
Previously, Veldman was the Sustainability & Philanthropy Manager for BarFly Ventures where she ran the sustainability, energy management, and waste diversion programs for 20 restaurant and bar locations across the Midwest. Through her work at the zero-waste-to-landfill business, Veldman became one of the foremost experts in organic diversion in the Midwest hospitality industry, training thousands of employees in composting procedures, and developing relationships with vendors in eight states. She also led the company’s annual ESG reporting and a fundraising initiative that leveraged collaboration with other local and regional breweries to support urban farming and clean water initiatives.
Veldman earned a Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Business from Aquinas College.
