Ottawa County Environmental Sustainability
The Ottawa County Department of Public Health has the Environmental Sustainability Program to help people recycle and properly dispose of materials. Items like sharps, electronics, food waste, scrap tires, used oil, household hazardous waste, and metals have other places than landfills. Those items can be reintroduced into markets, the environment, or disposed of properly; reducing their impacts on our environment and extending the material’s lifespan. People can recycle or dispose of items at six locations throughout Ottawa County, which includes four Environmental Sustainability Centers. The centers collect electronic waste, scrap metal, household hazardous waste, and used oil and antifreeze from residents at no cost. Cathode ray tube TVs (old picture tube TVs), food waste collected for compost, residential recycling, and scrap tires are collected for a small fee.
