artprize1ArtPrize is an international art competition, open to any artist and decided by public vote, promoting critical dialogue and collaboration throughout the year. For 19 days every fall, three square miles of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan become an open playing field where anyone can find a voice in the conversation about what is art and why it matters. Art from around the world pops up in every inch of downtown, and it’s all free and open to the public.

Understanding the environmental impact that an event of this caliber has, and also understanding the unique platform that we have to communicate to 400K people during our event, ArtPrize is in a unique position to showcase both the social imperative and the economic benefits of sustainability. With the help of the West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum, we are building a plan aimed to both educate and challenge ourselves and our community partners around carbon and waste management, hoping to be carbon neutral and zero-waste in the years to come. We also hope to explore the potential to educate and influence our community around energy use, water conservation, and local food systems.
