West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum will host its September membership meeting at the 2016 Michigan Sustainability Conference (MiSCON) on Wednesday, September 14 at the Grand Valley State University Eberhard Center from 12:30  to 2:30 pm.  WMSBF members may register for the membership meeting only or the full conference at a $45 discounted member rate.

The conference is a collaboration of Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Great Lakes Pollution Prevention Roundtable and West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum.

Featured speaker Eileen Gallagher, Senior Account Supervisor – Business & Social Purpose at Edelman, will discuss the multifaceted approach she utilizes to integrate sustainability into business strategy and create compelling and impactful sustainability marketing campaigns.

For more than 10 years, Eileen Gallagher has worked at the intersection of policy, business and academia to advance sustainability and accelerate climate action. She has worked with some of the world’s largest brands in aviation, consumer packaged goods, food and beverage, retail and apparel, and technology to increase investment in renewables, conserve natural resources, source ingredients and materials responsibly, uphold human rights throughout the supply chain and motivate consumer behavior change. To spur dialogue, foster collaboration and ultimately scale environmental, social and economic sustainability, Eileen helps businesses communicate their efforts to a variety of internal and external stakeholders including employees, the C-Suite, suppliers, nonprofit partners, policymakers, consumers and the media. Prior to joining Edelman, Eileen served as a communications associate at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC, focusing on the impact of climate change on global economic development.

Registration for the  WMSBF meeting-only option is now closed.

Members and non-members interested in attending the full conference may register here.  If you have not already received a discount code, contact Daniel Schoonmaker at dschoonmaker@wmsbf.org.

MISCON was developed with the belief that by addressing the triple bottom line – environmental, economic, and social issues – your business can achieve cost savings and potential growth, and improve your brand and image to customers. The conference will help forward thinking business professionals to develop and strengthen the in-house sustainability practices and communication strategies needed to engage customers, shareholders, suppliers, management, and others. It will provide an opportunity to engage in peer-to-peer ideas through thought provoking discussions that will identify essential elements for success and inspire ongoing efforts to improve sustainability at your business.

The 2016 Michigan Sustainability Conference highlights include a keynote that will illustrate how to communicate and brand your sustainability story. Other conference highlights are a large interactive session about shifting company culture through employee and management engagement and two concurrent tracks covering the following topics:

  • Incorporating Sustainability into a Business Model.
  • Tactics to incorporate supply chain into sustainable business efforts.
  • Implementing a Sustainability Strategy through employee engagement.
  • Environmental trends and metrics that impact customer preference.

This conference will provide Continuing Education Hours.
