The West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum will honor the professionals and students that demonstrate the most innovative and inspirational approach to promoting sustainability in the third annual Green Leaders and Future Green Leaders Competition.
Entrants are invited to submit a 500-700 word essay or a 3-minute video that answers the question: “How Do You Inspire Others to Be More Sustainable?” Student entrants in the Future Green Leaders category will have the opportunity to compete for a total of $6,000 in scholarships, as well.
Finalists in the essay and video contest that display their ways to uphold and encourage sustainability within their organizations, families or peer groups will have the opportunity to compete for the title of 2014 West Michigan Sustainable Business Fellow and Student Fellow at a luncheon event on Monday, April 14. . Finalists in the competition will present their work to a panel of judges composed of sustainability experts and forum members, and will also be asked to defend their ideas against common barriers to sustainability.
Finalists and their families will also be honored at a WMSBF-hosted reception the week prior to the event . A selection of honorable mention entries may also be published on the WMSBF web site, with permission.
Each of the three finalists in the student Future Green Leaders category will receive a $1,000 scholarship. An additional $3,000 scholarship will be awarded to the 2014 West Michigan Sustainable Business Student Fellow for a total prize of $4,000.
Past winners of the Competition have been showcased on the WGVU Morning Show and at the University of Michigan’s Center for Positive Organization Scholarship Website.
The student competition is open to any field of study at any accredited universities and colleges in Kent, Ottawa and Muskegon Counties. Entries must be submitted by March 14, 2014. Videos must be hosted on YouTube or Vimeo. Finalist will be notified by March 22.
