Job Alert: GVSU Sustainability Coordinator

Campus Sustainability Coordinator – BCOIS/Sustainable Community Development Initiative 
$48,500 – $55,000 Grand Valley State University

Responsibilities include:

  • Collecting and reporting data for the GVSU American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) agreement including the annual Climate Inventory and Climate Action Plan
  • Collecting and reporting data for GVSU sustainability reporting including the annual Association for the Advancement for Sustainability in Higher Education, Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating System (AASHE STARS) Report
  • Helping to identify on campus and off campus internship and associate opportunities for students and assist with placements
  • Coordinating, supervising, and overseeing student interns and volunteers on sustainability projects
  • Working with students and student groups to conceptualize and develop student run sustainability projects e.g. Eco-rep Program, Zero Waste events, Bike Rental Program
  • Providing leadership for a clearinghouse of GVSU sustainability related programs and activities, events, data and information, as well as an overall sustainability calendar
  • Serving as a liaison with facilities planning and facilities services, as well as with departmental staff

Required Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree including area of emphasis
  • Three or more years of experience in higher education and/or sustainability initiatives
  • Evidence of excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across disciplines with faculty, staff, and students
  • Experience in teaching, presenting, or leading sustainability initiatives in a liberal education setting
  • Prior leadership experience in increasing student engagement through coordination of student clubs and organizations, as well as individual sustainability initiatives
  • Capabilities to provide consultation, service, and support to internal campus clients in environment and sustainability related topics
  • Prior experience in building long term working relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize data including data analytics
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directing and self-initiating

Preferred Qualifications and Education -Master’s degree including area of emphasis 

  • Prior success in promoting a campus culture of sustainability through sustainable development best practices
  • Leadership in empowering students and staff to achieve sustainability literacy and learning outcomes, through class lectures and faculty teaching
  • Expertise in a sustainability related area such as facilities services, sustainable food systems or other sustainability areas
  • Experience supervising student internship placements, student employees, and student run sustainability projects.
