The West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum was founded in 1994 under the auspices of the West Michigan Environmental Action Council (WMEAC). In 2009, we reorganized into an independent organization, receiving our 501(c)3 nonprofit tax status from the IRS late in the year. Our membership represents a broad cross-section of large area industries and small businesses. Together, we are dedicated to developing the expertise and the means necessary to achieve our triple bottom line objective. We strive to expand and share our knowledge base through monthly meetings featuring guest speakers, periodic seminars and conferences, and special projects. Why We Exist The West Michigan region is abundantly blessed with a rich natural environment that supports a variety of industries including agriculture, tourism, world-class manufacturing, and a developing high-tech/knowledge sector. Our landscape of woods and waters provides ample opportunities for recreation, sport and quiet contemplation, while our cities nurture our commerce and culture. Each contributes immeasurably to our quality of life. However, as is true throughout much of the world today, this quality of life is imperiled by the endless demands we place upon these finite resources. While there is still time, we believe that a balance must be struck between economic prosperity, social equity and a healthy environment. Further, we believe that the business community can and should take the lead in finding and preserving this balance. This is the intention of the West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum. Our Mission Statement To promote business practices that demonstrate environmental stewardship, economic vitality, and social responsibility. Our Goals and Objectives Our goal is to encourage the adoption and implementation of sustainable development business practices aimed at improving corporate profitability while simultaneously enhancing the long-term health of the environment. SBF Membership The West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum welcomes any area businesses and individuals that share our commitment to economic, social, and environmental balance. Forum meetings are held in the Greater Grand Rapids area on the second Monday of each month at 12 Noon, and are open to prospective members. Please e-mail us if you would like information regarding the location and topic for our next meeting kyle@wmsbf.org. © Copyright 2010 West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum
